krishnaeshwar happy to help where I can.
And just to take it further, either for yourself (if you aren't already) or anyone interested in the future or stumbles on this (if what you're doing now later develops into wanting to script out the whole rig, or you grow tired of the limitations of Maya's script editor).
Perhaps invest the time to learn how to use an IDE like:
- Eclipse + PyDev (free)
- or PyCharm (Indie = $8.90/mo)
- or VisualStudio (or there's a bunch)
- and add Maya's DevKit (if you want)
- (or you may be able to get away with just using notepad++)
- (There's also Maya script editor replacement plugins like Charcoal, but I've never used it, and I like having code elsewhere just incase)
Packages like these, will come in handy when dealing with the amount of scripting involved.
Learning how to work with an IDE might set you back a bit timewise -- BUT Maya's script editor is like a quick and handy 2-step ladder.... whereas knowing how to work with an IDE is like having an elevator.
I believe there's a free 3rd party plugin on the PyCharm marketplace that hooks up to Maya's Script Editor, but I've never used that one, but it sounded cool.
I personally just stuck with and grown accustomed to Eclipse + PyDev, as that was my first one, and has always gotten the job done. (But people online argue it's clunky, and I admit the setup is kinda obnoxious, lol, and can get really slow with larger datasets... but it's still my main squeeze <3.)
But again, it's just something to keep in mind. If you don't plan on doing something like a whole rig, or a plugin or a software package... there's no point in having an elevator for a single-story building.
