Interesting technique..
To be honest having multiple technique under ur belt to solve a problem is always helpful in Production environment, especially in crunch time and tight deadline.
Personally I would still go with Sim approach, Reason is that one can show more of muscle sliding under skin. And solving Mus and Fat together in one solver can take advantage of bi-directional pull and push between mus and fat.
other benefits of simulating the fascia/Fat are that you can choose to pin areas with attachments and vary the material properties of the skin in areas (less surface tension or pressure to allow the skin to buckle for example
