Hi!
A little show and tell of my Hognose Snake project and sharing some fun and bloopers during my exploration from modeling, rigging, animation, simulation and beyond! 😀
Through this project, I learned that Hognose snakes have opisthoglyphous fangs - grooved fangs that are usually found near the back of the maxilla. Snakes with opisthoglyphous fangs need to chew on their prey to bring slowly bring their fangs into a biting position. ( Fun fact - While the pressure of venom glands of snakes in with solenoglyphous or proteroglyphous fangs can exceed 30 psi (the pressure of a car tire), the hognose snake's and its opisthoglyph relatives' venom gland pressure is around 5 psi.)
My first pass facial rom, and testing out the retraction and pushing of the opixthoglyphous fangs.
Exploration of jaw side to side movement:
Some slithering animation and tests:
Bone pass
Muscle pass
After looking more into some snake anatomy, I learned that snakes breathe by contracting muscles between their ribs through inspiration and expiration through a long, membranous caudral air sac. I tried using Ziva's pressure to simulate this effect and make the snake have more life. I might have cranked up the pressure value too high in the blooper. 😆
Cheers
