actually my scene was pretty basic :
creating a ztissue on a sphere, set inertial damping to 1, set solver scale 10 (same a 100), press play, and maya crash.
but after a reboot it seem working so... My apologies about that !
other test same scene :
solver iterative + inertial damping = 1

inertial damping at 0.99 work
about the run-up, the idea is during the run-up we want to remove the inertie (ID = 1) instead to have the full inertie, that's why I said that.
in my mind the calcul would be more something like that : ID = (1- [actual value])*[runup] + [actual value]
